I’m an Artist
What is an artist? I think we can agree that could mean a lot of things. We have artists who use sounds, colors, brushes and so much more. It’s up to you to figure out which art forms you’ll produce.
Congratulations on your discovery. I’m sure you’re hear because you are in fact in the realm of artist.
I’m thrilled to have some of your time. Let’s get to it.
I’m an Artist
Madam St. Black Moses
The pain drove me here
What I’ve gained in exchange
I wanted many ears to hear
How time went from good to strange
No one to ask for clarity
Wouldn’t it be nice to know you’re not insane
To be loved like my dreams, from family
Not the one created, but from where I came
I often feel selfish wanting for more
The brighter side shows me what I can do
While the darker side reminds me
Reminds me of what I been though
So when I lift my voice
I cry my melodies of change
Many, many hours went into training my ears
My strange still doesn’t feel good
My art is me
I am my art
I am filled with more love
Than I thought
I produced the love in my heart
Poured it right out my mind
Even learned to speak love over me
There isn’t a reason, I wouldn’t sing
– Madam St. Black Moses 01.08.2024
As you see I am a singer. However, I’ll vehicle poetry for my words. No word left behind. Life beats in your chest. That’s your rhythm. There are no two identical. What you feel and what I feel will be different. It doesn’t mean it’s wrong. It doesn’t mean it’s right. It means you’re an artist. I know I’m an artist.
Being natural to what your feeling. You don’t have to match the times. We see being exactly who we are works. It doesn’t happen overnight. Don’t go with the hype. When the hype is gone, then what?
I’m an advocate for Artist development. I believe in growing. I hope that’s why your here.
What does Artist development look like?
Artist Name: Sunday
Role:Singer – Amateur
Goal: develop into a professional singer. Doesn’t want to continue fixing in the mix. Not happy with playbacks. Not happy with running out of breath.
Artist development:
1. Finding a philosophy (Masters of Music) that works for you
2. Listening to yourself
3. Vocal coach (Masters of Music)
4. Identifying options to meet goals
5. Note taking
6. Studying
7. Practice
8. Reports
9. Rehearsals
10. Branding
11. Performance
12. Continuing to shape and mold
It may seem like going back to the basics. This is essentially the goal. If you can’t crawl, I wouldn’t recommend running. If you want to crawl, walk and then run. This is for you. You can’t rush the greatness. You can train. You can master the master within you.
Your art is at risk of improving. Your artist character awakens and allows you to become exactly what you set out for at the start of your journey. Like myself, I redirected my path. Keep in mind, things happen. The development should never stop.
Example: Sunday
Notes: over singing, lacking dynamics, strong note choice, but missing first note last note.
Nice tones and textures, nice falsetto. Metronome.
Plan: Sunday needs to learn her major and minor scales all 12.
Preferred with keyboard or guitar.
Alternative is reading scales, writing scales and/or listening to a video with click track with scales playing.
Sunday needs to listen Minnie Rippleton. Take notes on what you notice. Listen to her approach. Then listen to each instrument individually.
Next class, we are going to review the majors and minors.
This may seem like a music class, but if you’re learning, then I would suggest to treat it like it. This is for you. When you want something you work for it. Your neighbor may want to get their CDL license. Well, I’m sure they have an exam to be certified or at least to test their knowledge. Which means possibly, some learning could’ve taken place.
You may wonder why learn scales and why listen to old music. Well, honestly, there are twelve notes in music. They are the building blocks of speaking through music. The notes aren’t a instrumental on YouTube. The notes are your first words. You began compounding with chords. You began speaking in layers when you pay those first words over your compounds. Then, you can’t forget this is to the rhythm of your beat.
The aim is to get your point across the best way possible. Every detail matters. The roads are either 15 minutes or until forever. The choice is yours.
Before closing, I would like to give you some things to think about.
1. Do you think that music from 2013-2023 will be playing in 2050?
2. Do you think music from 1970-2000 will be playing in 2050?
3. How about music from before 1970?
4. Have you checked the charts to see what songs are still around? If not, in your free time go see what you find.
